Resident Engineer - Roadway

As a Resident Engineer, you'll lead the oversight of complex infrastructure construction projects that improve mobility, safety, and quality of life. You'll manage inspection teams, coordinate with contractors, and ensure compliance with standards and contract documents. Your work will improve roads, bridges, and transit systems, supporting emergency access and economic growth.

What You Will Do

Provide Quality Assurance and technical guidance, review/approve monthly pay estimates with Contractors, prepare/review correspondence to and from the Contractors and owner, and oversee project documentation, schedule monitoring, testing, and stakeholder communication.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline
• Professional Engineer (PE) license (Connecticut preferred) or one of the following: NICET Level IV certification, Meets ASCE Grade V
• Minimum of 8 years of relevant construction inspection and management experience, including oversight of roadway, highway, or bridge infrastructure projects
• Prior experience with CTDOT or other regional transportation agencies strongly preferred
• OSHA 30-hour certification or ability to obtain within 3 months of hire
• Working knowledge of Project Management Procedures (PMPs) and Project Management Guidelines (PMGs) preferred
• Strong written and verbal communication skills to support effective collaboration with contractors, owners, subconsultants, designers, and architects
• Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering plans, specifications, and construction schedules
• Physically able to work in the field, including navigating uneven terrain, climbing ladders, working at heights, and performing duties in a range of outdoor weather conditions
• Availability for occasional night and weekend work
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to travel to project sites
