Role Overview

A leading law firm is seeking an experienced Risk & Compliance Attorney to join its Risk Management team. This non-practicing attorney role is responsible for providing strategic legal guidance on ethics, compliance, conflicts, client engagement terms, and risk management initiatives across the firm.

What You Will Do

Review, analyze, negotiate, and interpret client engagement letters, outside counsel guidelines, non-disclosure agreements, and other contractual documents. Advise attorneys and firm leadership on legal ethics, professional responsibility, conflicts of interest, compliance, and risk management matters.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an ABA-accredited law school required.
  • Active membership in good standing with at least one U.S. state bar; District of Columbia bar membership preferred.
  • Minimum of five years of legal experience within a law firm or professional services environment, with significant experience in compliance, legal ethics, conflicts, risk management, or operational legal support.
  • Demonstrated experience negotiating and reviewing client engagement letters, outside counsel guidelines, contracts, and other legal agreements.
  • Strong knowledge of legal ethics, professional responsibility rules, conflicts of interest, client intake, and law firm risk management practices.
  • Experience conducting legal risk assessments and translating complex legal issues into practical business guidance.
  • Excellent legal research, analytical, writing, presentation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional initiatives, implement policies, and collaborate effectively with attorneys, firm leadership, and administrative professionals.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage competing priorities in a dynamic environment.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience, including mentoring staff, managing workflows, conducting performance evaluations, and supporting recruiting and professional development.
  • Knowledge of data privacy, cybersecurity, information governance, audit response processes, and emerging legal and regulatory developments.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to influence stakeholders and build productive relationships across all levels of the organization.
  • High degree of professionalism, sound judgment, initiative, discretion, and commitment to maintaining confidentiality.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment while supporting strategic firm initiatives and providing exceptional internal client service.
