Role Overview

The Safety Representative will assist the HS&E Department in ensuring compliance with Austal Safety Policies, Corporate, State, and Federal regulations and guidelines regarding occupational safety & health. The role involves working with employees on safety issues, performing site and equipment inspections, and conducting safety surveys.

What You Will Do

The Safety Representative will perform site and equipment inspections, assist in accident investigations, and conduct safety surveys. They will also provide first response medical assistance, recommend corrective actions, and work with other safety personnel, supervisors, and managers.

Requirements

  • 1-3 years of related EHS experience
  • Prior military, police, or professional fire service experience may be considered in lieu of education
  • Basic OSHA safety training certifications in 29 CFR 1915, 1910, or 1926
  • Ability to complete an OSHA and NFPA training to be recognized as a marine competent person for hot work inspections
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to work effectively with employees at all levels within the organization
  • Ability to work in a diverse work group
  • Ability to complete a medical first responder course within 6 months of hire
