Role Overview

The School Success Program Assistant will collaborate with parents and community partners to provide parent education in infant and child development, temperament, emotional learning, and behavior, and getting prepared for kindergarten. The ECFE-SSPA will work with families and partners with children ages prenatal-eight across multiple environments including but not limited to homes, hospitals, clinics, childcare centers and schools.

What You Will Do

Complete home visits, hospital visits, clinic visits, and school visits to coordinate and provide comprehensive parent education opportunities and materials to support school readiness and parent development. Recruit families and children to enroll in MPS Early Childhood Education programming including Family Education, Screening, Preschool and Teen Parenting Services.

Why It Might Be a Fit

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 3 years of demonstrated educational support experience in an urban educational environment, including group facilitation and conflict resolution. They will also have excellent written and oral presentation skills, high level of technical computer skills, and experience working with parents and children.

Requirements

  • Minimum bachelors degree in family studies, child development, social work, or early childhood education or related field
  • Knowledge and demonstrated skill in cultural sensitivity and working in culturally diverse urban settings
  • Ability to forge and maintain effective relationships with families, agencies, other employees and the general public
  • Demonstrated skill in working in cross-disciplinary and multicultural team and systems
  • Demonstrated organizational skills
  • Knowledge of early childhood and family resources in the Minneapolis area
  • Knowledge of early childhood and elementary public education systems
  • Excellent written and oral presentation skills
  • High level of technical computer skills with knowledge of Excel, and word processing programs
  • Experience working with parents and children
  • Availability to work evenings and weekends
