Role Overview

The Senior Fleet Mechanic performs advanced skilled mechanical services and repair work for both diesel and gasoline powered vehicles and equipment. They are responsible for scheduling and assigning work to co-workers, inspecting tasks upon completion, and maintaining materials, parts, and supplies records. The Senior Fleet Mechanic also ensures proper cleaning and maintenance of equipment, tools, and materials, and adheres to principles and practices of safe use and operation.

What You Will Do

The Senior Fleet Mechanic will perform related duties as directed, including inspecting school buses, responding to road emergencies, and utilizing computer/electronic devices to analyze electrical and electronic systems. They will also perform tasks such as fuel inventory and tracking daily usage of all types of fluids, and verify the accuracy of payroll input and submit documentation.

Why It Might Be a Fit

The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma or GED, a minimum of six years of progressively knowledgeable and technically skilled work in the maintenance and repair of motor vehicles, and demonstrated advanced skill level with specialty certifications. They will also have a valid CDL class "B" license with a passenger endorsement or obtain within six months of hiring date, and maintain a valid School Bus Inspector certificate throughout tenure in position.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • A minimum of six years of progressively knowledgeable and technically skilled work in the maintenance and repair of motor vehicles
  • Demonstrated advanced skill level with specialty certifications
  • ASE certification: Master School Bus Technician Certification preferred
  • Previous experience as a shop foreman/supervisor preferred
  • Technical knowledge of applicable laws, codes, ordinances or other regulatory standards governing the operation of fleet services or equivalent combination of education, training and experience
  • Valid CDL class "B" license with a passenger endorsement or obtain within six months of hiring date
  • Valid School Bus Inspector certificate
