Role OverviewThe Legal Counsel will be responsible for performing various duties related to the care and custody of juvenile justice-involved youth, including providing legal guidance, drafting court documents, and representing the Administration for Children’s Services (ACS) in matters related to custody. The role requires strong legal expertise, research skills, and ability to work with various stakeholders, including Family Court Legal Services (FCLS) and the ACS’ Office of Intergovernmental Affairs.
What You Will Do
The selected candidate will be responsible for responding to challenging and urgent legal concerns, providing legal opinions on practices, policies, and procedures, conducting research, and attending meetings to provide technical assistance. The role also involves representing the agency in court, drafting and filing court documents, and providing guidance on employment issues, confidentiality agreements, and records production.

Requirements
- Admission to the New York State Bar
- One year of satisfactory United States legal experience subsequent to admission to any state bar
- Six months of satisfactory service as an Agency Attorney Interne (30086)
- One year of experience at Assignment Level I or two years of comparable legal experience subsequent to admission to the bar
- Two years of experience in Assignment Levels I and/or II or three years of comparable legal experience subsequent to admission to the bar
