Senior Software Engineer - Real-time Data

The Senior Software Engineer - Real-time Data will design and build services and APIs with in-house and open source technologies, become an expert in distributed architecture, and collaborate with various groups within Bloomberg to drive solutions to completion. The role requires a strong understanding of fundamental concepts like compute, storage, file system, etc., and an effective approach to problem-solving. The team is responsible for distributing low-latency, high-volume data to users around the world, handling hundreds of billions of messages per day.

What You Will Do

Design and build services and APIs with in-house and open source technologies, become an expert in distributed architecture, and collaborate with various groups within Bloomberg to drive solutions to completion. The role requires a strong understanding of fundamental concepts like compute, storage, file system, etc., and an effective approach to problem-solving.

Requirements

• 4+ years working with an object-oriented programming language (such as C/C++, Java, Python)
• A degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, similar field of study or equivalent work experience
• A background in building reliable, well-tested software for production systems
• Confidence diagnosing and resolving live operational issues
• Strong communication skills — able to work across teams and influence peers.
• Comfort and confidence in collaborating with peers, partners, and management
• A track record of helping teams plan, prioritize, and deliver complex technical projects
• An understanding of fundamental concepts like compute, storage, file system etc.
• An effective approach to problem-solving
• Systems and APIs design skills
