Role OverviewWe are looking for a Senior Writer/Editor to join the Technical Communications team at the Software Engineering Institute (SEI) for a 4-month part-time, fixed-term assignment. In this role, you will write and edit technical content for reports, the SEI website, blogs, and presentations. You will collaborate with SEI researchers, engineers, and other subject-matter experts to gather complex technical information and prepare it for distribution to different audiences.
What You Will Do
You will edit formal technical reports at all editorial levels, including substantive editing, copyediting, and proofreading. You will analyze content for Section 508 conformance and apply changes to documents to ensure 508 conformance. You will write technical content and stories for the SEI website, Year in Review, and other communication channels.

Requirements
- At least five years of experience in writing and editing
- Exceptional copyediting and proofreading skills
- Mastery of grammar, punctuation, syntax, usage, and consistency in technical and formal writing
- Experience with 508 conformance, including using accessibility tools and assistive tech and media
- Strong organizational, time management, and project management skills
- Experience with complex subjects, preferably in software or science
- Experience with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word and PowerPoint
- Ability to work with minimal or no supervision and participate in team decision making
- Ability to pass a background check, get and maintain a DoW security clearance, and possibly get and maintain other customer-required background checks
