Role Overview

The Shift Supervisor supports daily operations at a shelter by ensuring client services run smoothly, safely, and on time. They supervise activities, manage schedules, oversee facility safety and cleanliness, and conduct safety checks such as fire drills and substance use screenings.

What You Will Do

Supervise the overall shelter environment, conduct regular safety and room checks, lead fire drills and evacuations, manage the daily schedule of activities, oversee client appointments, and administer breathalyzer tests or observe urine collection when required.

Why It Might Be a Fit

The ideal candidate will have at least 2 years of experience in human services, preferably with individuals experiencing homelessness or substance use issues, and be able to obtain an FDNY F-80 Certificate of Fitness within 90 days of hire.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED
  • At least 2 years of experience in human services
  • Ability and willingness to obtain FDNY F-80 Certificate of Fitness within 90 days of hire
  • Willingness to obtain CPR and NYC Food Handler’s certifications, as needed
  • Flexible and available to work varied shifts, including evenings and weekends
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and interpersonal skills
  • Reliable, organized, and able to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced setting
  • Approaches sensitive situations with empathy, discretion, and professionalism
