Role Overview

Performs ship carpentry work aboard vessels and terminals of the Staten Island Ferry, under the supervision of a Supervisor Ship Carpenter. Requires five years of full-time satisfactory experience as a ship carpenter performing construction or repair work in a shipyard, or at a ship repair facility, on a ship or other marine vessel, at a dock, or a waterfront facility or performing related marine carpentry.

What You Will Do

Uses and operates all carpentry shop hand and powered machinery, tools and equipment; repairs and erects partitions, doors and windows; works from prints and measurements. Performs all necessary wood working repairs and maintenance of ferries, floating equipment, terminals and related buildings; replaces broken glass, constructs and installs scaffolding; constructs and repairs float stages.

Must pass a drug screening to be appointed, and are subject to random drug and alcohol testing during employment. Must obtain a Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC) within 30 days of appointment, and maintain it for the duration of employment.
