Role Overview

Performs ship carpentry work aboard vessels and terminals of the Staten Island Ferry. Under supervision, uses and operates carpentry shop hand and powered machinery, tools, and equipment to repair and maintain ferries, floating equipment, terminals, and related buildings.

What You Will Do

Uses and operates carpentry shop hand and powered machinery, tools, and equipment to perform repairs and maintenance of ferries, floating equipment, terminals, and related buildings. Replaces broken glass, constructs and installs scaffolding, constructs and repairs float stages, and installs, repairs, and replaces flooring, partitions, window frames, and sashes.

Why It Might Be a Fit

Must pass a drug screening, undergo a federal background check, and obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) within 30 days of appointment. Must also establish residency within 90 days of appointment.

Requirements

  • Five years of full-time satisfactory experience as a ship carpenter performing construction or repair work in a shipyard, or at a ship repair facility, on a ship or other marine vessel, at a dock, or a waterfront facility, or performing related marine carpentry.
  • Valid Transportation Workers Identification Credential issued by the US Transportation Security Administration within thirty days of appointment.
