Role Overview

Join the E-Therapy team as an Onsite American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter in Cary, IL for the 26/27 school year. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in facilitating communication between deaf or hard of hearing students and their peers, teachers, and school staff.

What You Will Do

Provide real-time interpretation between spoken English and American Sign Language (ASL) for students, teachers, and school staff in classroom and extracurricular activities. Facilitate communication during instruction, meetings, assessments, and school events to ensure full accessibility for students who are deaf or hard of hearing.

Requirements

  • ISBE approval or IDHHC
  • Associate's OR Bachelor’s degree in American Sign Language Interpretation, Deaf Studies, or a related field
  • National Interpreter Certification (NIC), Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) Score of 3.5 or higher, or equivalent certification
  • Proficiency in ASL and English, with strong receptive and expressive skills
  • Understanding of educational settings, including knowledge of special education laws and practices
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills
  • Previous experience working as an interpreter or translator in an educational or community setting
  • Cultural competency and sensitivity to diverse backgrounds and experiences
