Role OverviewUnder the direction of a Special Education teacher, assists in the instruction of disabled students with various disabilities, including physical, visual, and hearing impairments, learning disabilities, behavior disorders, emotional impairments, and mental impairments. Performs related duties as required.
What You Will Do
Assists teachers in reinforcing efforts with children, provides one-on-one tutoring services, assists with personal hygiene services, arranges and adjusts tools for students with orthopedic impairments, and accompanies students to swimming pools and medical clinics.
Why It Might Be a Fit
Requires good knowledge of student disabilities, English grammar and spelling, basic mathematics, and ability to work with students of various ages and abilities. Ability to perform CPR is highly desirable.
Requirements
- TASN (NCLB) paraprofessional license from the Illinois State Board of Education
- 60 semester hours of college credit or successful completion of a paraprofessional exam (Work Keys or Parapro)
- Good knowledge of student disabilities, English grammar and spelling, basic mathematics
- Ability to work with and for students with various disabilities, ages birth to twenty-one (21) years of age
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions and direction
- Ability to complete and maintain basic written reports
