Role OverviewAssist a teacher in a PK-6th grade classroom with tasks such as preparing instructional materials, maintaining a neat and orderly classroom, and providing support to students with physical disabilities. The role requires adapting to each student's special medical, physical, communicative, and emotional needs. Regular and punctual attendance at the worksite is required.
What You Will Do
Help with tasks such as inventory, care and maintenance of equipment, keeping administrative records, and assisting students with physical disabilities. Assist with classroom curriculum, manage student behavior, and supervise students throughout the school day.
Why It Might Be a Fit
The ideal candidate will have a paraprofessional certificate, a demonstrated general knowledge of child growth/development and behavior characteristics, and effective communication skills. Bilingual skills in English and Spanish are preferred.
Requirements
- Accredited Senior High School Diploma or equivalent
- Paraprofessional certificate from State Board of Certification
- Successful completion of a specific training program for teacher assistants or six months of knowledge and skills acquired through work experience
- Demonstrated general knowledge of child growth/development and behavior characteristics
- Demonstrated ability to work with people from diverse ethnic groups
- Demonstrated organizational and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated initiative and a willingness to follow verbal and written instructions
- Demonstrated effective communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to work with children with disabilities
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred
