Job Description
Help teacher prepare instructional materials, maintain a neat and orderly classroom, and assist students with physical and personal care. Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers, help manage student behavior, and work with students to develop motor skills. Assist with classroom curriculum, inventory, and equipment care. Regular attendance is required.

Requirements

  • Accredited Senior High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Paraprofessional certificate from State Board of Certification
  • Specific training program for teacher assistants or six months of knowledge and skills acquired through work experience
  • General knowledge of child growth/development and behavior characteristics
  • Ability to work with people from diverse ethnic groups
  • Organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Initiative and willingness to follow verbal and written instructions
  • Effective communication skills (oral and written)
  • Ability to work with children with disabilities
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred
  • Flexibility to cope with changing world
  • Willingness to remain current with profession developments
