SPED Intensive Support Teacher Assistant (Grades: K-5)

The SPED Intensive Support Teacher Assistant will assist a teacher in preparing instructional materials, maintaining a classroom, and providing support to students with physical disabilities. The role requires regular and punctual attendance at the worksite and performing all duties at the worksite. The position involves working with students with diverse needs, including those with physical disabilities, and requires a high level of organizational and interpersonal skills.

What You Will Do

The main responsibilities of the SPED Intensive Support Teacher Assistant include helping the teacher prepare instructional materials, maintaining a neat and orderly classroom, assisting students with physical disabilities, and helping to manage student behavior. The role also involves working with individual students or small groups to develop motor skills and conduct instructional exercises assigned by the teacher.

Requirements

• Accredited Senior High School Diploma or equivalent (U.S.A. equivalency)
• Paraprofessional certificate from State Board of Certification
• Successful completion of a specific training program for teacher assistants or six months of knowledge and skills acquired through work experience
• Demonstrated general knowledge of child growth/development and behavior characteristics
• Demonstrated ability to work with people from diverse ethnic groups
• Demonstrated organizational and interpersonal skills
• Demonstrated initiative and a willingness to follow verbal and written instructions
• Demonstrated effective communication skills both in oral and written form
• Demonstrated ability to work with children with disabilities
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred
