Role OverviewAssist a teacher in a self-contained classroom for students with special needs, grades 6-8. Responsibilities include preparing instructional materials, maintaining a neat and orderly classroom, and assisting students with physical disabilities. The ideal candidate will be able to work with diverse students, maintain confidentiality, and adapt to each student's unique needs.
What You Will Do
Help the teacher prepare materials and classroom displays, assist with inventory and equipment care, and provide orientation to substitute teachers. You will also assist students with physical disabilities, manage student behavior, and work with individual students to develop motor skills.

Requirements
- Accredited Senior High School Diploma or equivalent
- Paraprofessional certificate from State Board of Certification
- Successful completion of a specific training program for teacher assistants or six months of knowledge and skills acquired through work experience
- Demonstrated general knowledge of child growth/development and behavior characteristics
- Demonstrated ability to work with people from diverse ethnic groups
- Demonstrated organizational and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated initiative and a willingness to follow verbal and written instructions
- Demonstrated effective communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to work with children with disabilities
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred
