Role OverviewIonQ is seeking a Staff Scientist, Materials Science to join the Computational Sciences team. The role will involve leading scientific work on condensed matter and high energy physics problems, connecting them to quantum computation. The scientist will work independently against goals rather than under close direction and help shape how IonQ tackles real scientific problems as the company moves towards fault-tolerant applications.

Key responsibilities include leading condensed matter and high energy physics application projects, connecting physics problems to quantum computation, combining classical simulation and HPC workloads with quantum methods, comparing computed results against experimental data, and collaborating with the fault-tolerant algorithms, quantum chemistry, and software engineering teams.
