Role OverviewThis position is classified as an essential employee who performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled tasks with the objective of maintaining the Town’s Street infrastructure, storm water, sidewalks, and street signage for the safe and appealing enjoyment of the community. These tasks require the use of manual tools, powered hand tools, and light-heavy mechanical equipment generally associated with street infrastructure maintenance within the Towns corporate city limits.
What You Will Do
Performs or assists in the maintenance to include asphalt crack pouring, pothole repair, leveling, grinding, new pavement installs, and pavement markings as needed. Performs or assists in the maintenance to include concrete sidewalk repairs/installations, concrete curb repairs/installs, concrete pad repairs/installs, and concrete grinding of any trip hazards.
Why It Might Be a Fit
Must be able to safely operate, care for, and maintain a variety of hand tools and light power equipment such as rakes, shovels, trimmers, edger’s, blowers, tamps, saws, etc. Must be able to safely operate small tractors and small work trucks (sometimes with trailers).
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Must have valid Drivers’ License and excellent driving record
- Some knowledge of the hazards and applicable safety requirements of equipment and machines used
- Knowledge of basic street maintenance procedures
- Knowledge of storm water and the maintenance procedures associated with them
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions
- Ability to read and write
- Ability to deal with stressful public contact
- Ability to perform strenuous work under varying weather conditions
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships with other employees
- Ability to operate hand tools and other appropriate equipment
- Mechanical ability and aptitude
- Ability to perform assigned tasks
