Structural Engineer

As a Structural Engineer at Simpson Gumpertz & Heger (SGH), you will contribute to all phases of project delivery, including structural evaluation, analysis, design, and construction administration. You will serve as a technical resource for project teams, lead the development of engineering drawings and specifications, collaborate directly with clients, and play a key role in mentoring emerging engineers. The Washington, D.C. Structures Division provides structural engineering services with an emphasis on new design, repair and rehabilitation, and investigation and performance evaluation of constructed works. SGH laboratories support our design and investigation work with material, mechanical, and environmental testing.

What You Will Do

Perform structural evaluations, analyses, designs, and investigative engineering assignments. Prepare and review structural calculations, technical reports, drawings, and specifications to maintain quality, accuracy, and compliance with applicable codes and standards. Assist with the management of projects from concept through construction, including scope, budget, schedule, and quality control. Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, clients, contractors, and stakeholders to deliver successful project outcomes.

Requirements

• MS in Structural Engineering from an ABET-accredited university
• Minimum of 5 years of structural engineering experience with increasing levels of responsibility
• Strong technical expertise in the analysis, design, and evaluation of varying structural systems and materials
• Strong working knowledge of IBC, ASCE 7, AISC, ACI, TMS, NDS, and other applicable standards and codes
• Proficiency in structural analysis and design tools such as RAM, RISA, ETABS, SAP2000, and Revit
• Experience managing projects, budgets, schedules, and client relationships
• Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills
• A collaborative mindset and passion for delivering exceptional engineering solutions
• PE license required; SE license preferred (if applicable)
