Job Description
Role Overview

The Substation Structural Engineer has broad technical knowledge and experience with structural design components of high voltage electrical switchyard and substation projects up to 500kV. They work in close coordination with Project Managers and project teams to lead, oversee, review, and/or execute the structural engineering and design components of substation projects. This person may also train, mentor, and guide junior engineers across the practice and help develop and implement best practices to advance our capabilities across this discipline.

What You Will Do

Review and/or execute structural engineering tasks for substation structural members, including detailed design, calculations, and detailing for fabrication or development of loading and concept drawings. Support physical substation layout designs, plans, elevations/sections, details, and associated bills of materials. Coordinate and/or perform quality checks and reviews for project deliverables per the HDR Quality Management Systems (QMS) requirements.

Why It Might Be a Fit

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 3 years of technical design experience with high voltage electrical switchyard and substation projects of varying complexity, including foundation and steel structural design. They will have a strong understanding of industry standards, including AISC-360, ASCE-7, ACI-318, and other industry standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering
  • Professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position offered
  • Previous experience in project execution within the Power Market Sector
  • Computer skills in Microsoft Office and standard Power Market Sector design software
