Role OverviewAssists Special Education teachers in elementary and high schools with students who have various disabilities. Lifts and positions non-ambulatory students, provides one-on-one tutoring and personal hygiene services, and assists with daily living skills. Accompanies students to medical appointments and assists with feeding and other personal services.
What You Will Do
Assists teachers with students' Individual Education Programs (IEPs), provides one-on-one tutoring, and assists with daily living skills. Lifts and positions non-ambulatory students, provides personal hygiene services, and accompanies students to medical appointments.
Why It Might Be a Fit
Must have good knowledge of students with various disabilities, English grammar and spelling, and basic mathematics. Ability to work with students with disabilities, follow instructions, and complete written reports. Good oral and written communication skills and ability to perform CPR.
Requirements
- Completed Associate's degree from a college or university accredited by the North Central Association or another regional accrediting body
- Successful completion of at least sixty (60) semester hours of college credit at a college or university accredited by the North Central Association or another regional accrediting body
- Successful completion of a state-approved paraprofessional assessment
- At least one year of work experience involving the care and supervision of children with disabilities
- Valid TASN (NCLB) paraprofessional license from the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) at time of employment
