Substitute Teacher

The Substitute Teacher provides a warm, nurturing, stimulating, safe and loving environment where each child can develop language, cognitive, social, emotional, and physical skills appropriately. This involves becoming the Primary Caregiver/Teacher when a regular classroom teacher is absent, familiarizing self with the day's planned activities, and implementing culturally sensitive educational activities.

What You Will Do

The Substitute Teacher will assist in implementing developmentally appropriate activities, provide a warm and positive environment, and develop nurturing relationships with each child. They will also maintain all federal, state, local, and accreditation standards, follow policies and procedures, and ensure safe practices.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED required
• DCF 45-hour training and experience in a child care setting preferred
• Knowledge of child growth and development
• Developmentally appropriate practices for children ages birth to 5 years
• Ability to provide a supportive and caring environment for children
• Ability to exercise control and maintain appropriate classroom discipline
• Ability to implement the approved curriculum
• Ability to exercise good judgment and emotional maturity
• Ability to build and establish collaborative relationships
• Ability to work effectively with diverse staff and families
• Demonstrates proper use of grammar and communication skills
• Knowledge of applicable safety and abuse-reporting procedures
• Ability to maintain confidential information
• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
• Ability to plan and organize work as well as maintain records
• Willingness to learn and continue personal education
