Supervising Physician, Bureau of School Health

The Supervising Physician will work under the supervision of the Assistant Medical Director of the K-8 program, orienting, training, and supervising School Health Physicians. They will provide guidance for direct medical services, chronic disease management, and case management. The role involves ensuring the provision of mandated services, attending to the health needs of designated school communities, and providing direct clinical services to an assigned panel of schools.

The Supervising Physician will perform various duties, including orienting and training School Health Physicians, working within the mandates and policies of the Office of School Health, ensuring the provision of mandated services, and attending to the health needs of designated school communities. They will also provide direct clinical services to an assigned panel of schools and serve as a consultant to school physicians, nurses, and administrative staff.

Requirements

• Possession of a valid license to practice medicine in the State of New York
• Valid Board Certification issued by the appropriate American Specialty Board in any specialty area required by the agency
• One year of satisfactory experience practicing in the specialty area (for Assignment Level II)
• A Master's degree in Public Health, or equivalent Master's degree, including or supplemented by graduate credits in epidemiology and biostatistics (for Assignment Level III)
• Completion of an approved residency program in an accredited hospital, including three years of experience, in either internal medicine, or family practice, or pediatrics, or another related specialty area required by the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (for Assignment Level IV)
