Role Overview

ICON Eyecare is a full-service, medical ophthalmology provider offering comprehensive eye care, LASIK, vision correction, and cataract procedures. We are looking for a full-time Surgical Counselor to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for counseling and educating patients about their upcoming surgery and lens options, as well as managing the logistics of the surgery process.

What You Will Do

The Surgical Counselor will be responsible for counseling and educating patients about their upcoming surgery and lens options, setting surgery dates, sending necessary paperwork, confirming pre-certification, discussing implant options, collecting fees, issuing refunds, creating H&P's, and sending surgery operative notes.

The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work as a team member. Prior surgical counseling experience is preferred, and previous sales background is required. The Surgical Counselor will be responsible for managing interactions with difficult patients and will need to be comfortable with the sales aspect of specialty lenses.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • At least two years of work experience in a medical office setting
  • Prior Surgical Counseling experience preferred
  • Previous sales background is required
  • Knowledge of insurance carrier policies and procedures
  • Use of kindness, empathy, and patience when dealing with our patient population
  • Attention to detail
  • Comfortable with sales aspect of specialty lenses
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Ability to work as a team member
  • Requires skills in operating computers, EHR, word processing software, fax machines, and copier machines
  • Cooperates and effectively communicates with all staff members and physicians about patient matters
  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred
  • Knowledge of basic eye care and hygienic methods and practices involving the treatment of the eye
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Strong knowledge of pharmacy abbreviations
