Job Description
North Carolina Specialty Hospital is seeking a Surgical Technologist Apprenticeship candidate to assist in surgical operations under the guidance of surgeons, registered nurse(s), or additional O.R. personnel. The ideal candidate will have completion of an accredited school of surgical technology or the equivalent in clinical surgery training/experience.

Requirements

  • Under the supervision of the Director of Surgical Services
  • Assist in surgical operations
  • Perform scrub activities based on principles of aseptic technique, infection control, universal precautions guidelines, environmental control, and life safety guidelines
  • Prepare and know the specific uses of equipment, instrumentation, and supplies used for surgical procedures
  • Locate and operate equipment, handle and operate equipment properly
  • Implement and maintain preference cards in an updated complete form utilizing automated process and clinical information systems appropriately and efficiently
  • Identify potential risks to patients, identify risks to patients in order to reduce incidence of injury, identify actions to eliminate, minimize or report risks, identify procedures to follow in the event of an incident, report processes for common problems, failures and user errors
  • Demonstrate the spirit of the philosophy, mission, and values of the hospital through words and actions and implement them into departmental processes, programs, and the working environment
  • Apply the principles and values of customer service and continuous quality improvement while performing day-to-day activities of the position
  • Maintain and protect confidentiality regarding all aspects of patient care, personnel, and strategic issues
  • Adhere to Confidentiality Policy, maintain positive working relationships and foster a cooperative work environment, adhere to the hospital's 'Guidelines for Appropriate Conduct' in the HR Manual, display honesty and mutual respect when communicating with peers and other departments, follow through on problems that may compromise effective job performance by using appropriate chain of command
  • Utilize concepts of age/developmental stages in interactions with patients and families, comply with National Patient Safety Goals, universal precautions, and infection control guidelines, including hand washing guidelines followed at all times
  • Perform other duties as required or assigned, which are reasonably within the scope of duties in this job classification
  • Demonstrate respect for diverse backgrounds of all patients, families, and co-workers
