Role Overview

Assist a special education teacher in preparing instructional materials, maintaining a neat and orderly classroom, and providing support to students with physical disabilities. Work with individual students or small groups to develop motor skills and conduct instructional exercises. Maintain confidentiality and participate in staff development training programs.

What You Will Do

Help the teacher prepare instructional materials, maintain a neat and orderly classroom, assist students with physical disabilities, assist with classroom curriculum, manage student behavior, supervise students, and keep the teacher informed of special needs or problems.

Requirements

  • Paraprofessional certificate from State Board of Certification
  • Accredited Senior High School Diploma or equivalent (U.S.A. equivalency)
  • Associate degree or 48 college credit hours
  • Pass an academic assessment
  • Successful completion of a specific training program for teacher assistants or six months of knowledge and skills acquired through work experience
