Job Description
The Teacher Special Education RDSPD will provide direct classroom instruction in academic, behavior, social and self-care, consistent with requirements of state and federal laws as specified in each student's Individual Education Plan's skills for students in the Regional Day School Program for the Deaf.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Deaf Education or related field
  • Valid Texas Teacher Certification for Teacher of the Deaf
  • Valid Teaching Certification Issued by Texas Education Agency appropriate to subject and grade level of assignment or demonstrate competency through the state's 2010 and 2011 High Objective Uniform State Standard of Evaluation (HOUSSE)
  • De-Escalation/Restraint Certification
  • Assessment of Sign Communication (TASC) for Total Communication Classroom Environments
  • Ability to plan and implement lessons based on needs and abilities of students
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers and parents
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral, written, and sign
  • Demonstrated knowledge of appropriate technology equipment and software programs
  • Proven ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional programs
