Role Overview

The Technical Consultant - I provides program management oversight of the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) Management and Operating contractor. The position supports the SOID Project Manager by performing project management functions across surface and underground operations, waste receipt and emplacement, waste transportation, Minor Construction Project installation, and Earned Value Management System activities used to evaluate contractor cost and schedule performance.

What You Will Do

Provide program management oversight of the WIPP Management and Operating contractor, oversee surface and underground operations, monitor waste receipt and emplacement activities, oversee waste transportation activities, monitor the installation of Minor Construction Projects, and evaluate Earned Value Management System activities.

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated expert knowledge and specialized experience in hazardous or nuclear waste generation or waste management, or expertise in a technical discipline associated with operation of a nuclear facility or laboratory.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in an applicable field of study with 15 years of experience
  • Master's degree in an applicable field of study with 10 years of experience
  • Ph.D. in a related discipline with five years of experience
  • US citizenship
  • Ability to work onsite at the WIPP site four days per week on a 4/10 work schedule
  • Ability to satisfy the specialized-need requirements of the Technical Consultant - I labor category
