Role Overview

A Temporary Immigration Legal Advocate provides critical administrative and legal support to legal staff at the Tahirih Justice Center, a national nonprofit organization serving immigrant survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, trafficking, and other violence. The role involves preparing forms, gathering evidence, and managing communications with clients, as well as providing administrative support to ensure grant metrics compliance.

What You Will Do

The Temporary Immigration Legal Advocate will answer client calls, prepare immigration forms, gather supporting evidence, and assemble application packets for supervisor review. They will also provide administrative support, maintain physical and electronic case files, and provide information and referrals to clients on crime victim rights and social services.

Why It Might Be a Fit

The ideal candidate will have at least 1 year of experience serving as a paralegal or legal advocate, ideally in an immigration-focused practice, and be fluent in Spanish. They will be responsible, self-initiating, and focused, with proven ability to work collaboratively in a team-based environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent
  • At least 1 year of experience serving as a paralegal or legal advocate, ideally in an immigration-focused practice
  • Fluency in Spanish
  • Strong organizational habits, time management skills, and prioritization skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills, cultural humility, and cross-cultural communication skills
  • Experience supporting survivors of violence and trauma and those from diverse cultural backgrounds
