Role Overview

Assists in the instruction of pupils, performs related duties as required, and works under the supervision of a teacher holding a valid state certificate. The role involves assisting in the supervision of students, providing security functions, and maintaining the orderly arrangement of classrooms. The position requires working with and for school-aged children, following written and oral instructions, and operating basic office equipment. The ideal candidate will have good knowledge of proper English grammar and spelling, basic knowledge of mathematics, and knowledge of Chicago Public Schools rules and regulations.

What You Will Do

Assists in supervising students during lunchroom and playground activities, provides security functions, assists students in understanding and completing classroom assignments, assists teachers in preparing bulletin boards and displaying students' work, operates photocopying and duplicating machines, and provides tutoring services to students under the supervision of the classroom teacher.

The ideal candidate will have good communication skills, be able to work with and for school-aged children, and have the ability to follow written and oral instructions. The position requires a valid TASN (NCLB) paraprofessional license from the Illinois State Board of Education, which may be applied for and obtained after the successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of college credit or a paraprofessional exam.
