Underwriting Consultant

• Lead budget and renewal analyses, including the development of client-ready financial models and pricing scenarios for health coverage changes using experience or manual rating tools.

• Provide actionable insights, recommendations, and support to consultants in presenting financial data, plan options, and renewal strategies to clients.

• Create, update, and maintain underwriting, rating, and contribution models; provide overviews and training to Alera colleagues as needed.

• Collaborate in obtaining and interpreting new carrier product information to support accurate pricing and development of client renewals.

• Assist in analyzing carrier and vendor marketing responses to support strategic decision-making during renewal and marketing efforts.

• Conduct peer reviews of client deliverables prepared by underwriting team members to ensure accuracy and consistency.

• Act as a liaison to the Actuarial Center of Excellence and contribute to ad hoc analyses and special projects as needed.

• Hold active State Life & Health Licenses with strong technical expertise in employee benefits, including strategic and tactical understanding of client needs.

• Possess advanced knowledge of financial arrangements and underwriting principles for health programs.

• Demonstrate strong analytical, problem-solving, and negotiation skills, with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.

• Exhibit excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively.

• Communicate clearly and professionally, both in writing and verbally; adept at presenting complex information.

• Work independently and collaboratively in team environments; maintain a positive, approachable, and professional demeanor.

• Show a commitment to ongoing learning and professional development; able to attend in-person regional meetings as required.

Salary range is $80K to 120K per year.
