Violence & Injury Death Data Abstractor (Researcher 2)

The Violence & Injury Death Data Abstractor (Researcher 2) will collect, review, and analyze sensitive violent-death and injury data, including coroner records, law enforcement reports, and crime laboratory documentation. The role involves entering, formatting, and validating sensitive case data in the Ohio Violent Death Reporting System (OH-VDRS) and Access databases. The Researcher 2 will also perform statewide site visits to coroner offices and law enforcement agencies to obtain records, abstract data on-site, and strengthen participation in OH-VDRS. Additionally, the Researcher 2 will collaborate with data owners and reporting sources to improve data collection processes, submission accuracy, and compliance with reporting standards.

What You Will Do

The main day-to-day responsibilities of the Violence & Injury Death Data Abstractor (Researcher 2) include collecting, reviewing, and analyzing sensitive violent-death and injury data, entering and formatting sensitive case data in OH-VDRS and Access databases, retrieving and analyzing complex injury-related data, and performing statewide site visits to coroner offices and law enforcement agencies. The Researcher 2 will also develop and document research tools, data abstraction methods, coding procedures, and analysis workflows to support program consistency and quality.

To be a fit for this role, the ideal candidate will have 12 months of experience in conducting research studies using operational, mathematical, analytical, and/or statistical research techniques and preparing reports, records, and/or technical evaluations related to research conducted. The candidate should also have experience with data abstraction, coroner or law enforcement records and/or data, coding data, extracting, analyzing, interpreting, and presenting data, and using Statistical Analysis Software (SAS).
