Role OverviewThe NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is seeking a Water Use Inspector to perform work in the field and/or office, including reading, inspecting, testing, making repair and replacing water meters and Automated Meter Reading (AMR) equipment. The selected candidate will serve notices to repair recently installed and unapproved defective water meters, conduct inspections to ensure conformance to codes, standards, plans or specifications relating to the metering, sale and use of City water, and report leaks and waste of water.
What You Will Do
Inspect, test, repair, replace and install water meters and associated conditions, read water meters and remote reading devices, enter reading and appropriate condition codes into a portable computer and/or appropriate forms, and testify at the Environmental Control Board.

Requirements
- A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent
- Six months of full-time satisfactory experience in plumbing, electrical or solar installation, construction, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems, building maintenance, or as a pipe fitter or steam fitter
- One year of full-time satisfactory experience as a helper or apprentice in the fields described above
- Graduation from an approved trade, vocational, or technical high school with a specialty in a trade listed above
