Role OverviewThe Wiring Operator performs various duties associated with the assembly of electronic equipment, cable assemblies, mechanical assemblies, and tag generation. The role requires utilizing and interpreting engineering electrical schematics, plans, and prints to assemble and wire projects for railroad signaling. The operator must work from complex verbal/written instructions, drawings, and/or documentation to determine methods of wiring where procedures are not readily available. The operator must also work with computer programs and schematic/drawings to create wiring identification tags.
What You Will Do
The main day-to-day responsibilities of the Wiring Operator include utilizing and interpreting engineering electrical schematics, plans, and prints to assemble and wire projects for railroad signaling. The operator must also work with computer programs and schematic/drawings to create wiring identification tags. Additionally, the operator must work with pneumatic/standard crimpers, hand tools, and power tools to perform work.
Why It Might Be a Fit
The Wiring Operator must possess a basic mechanical aptitude, with the ability to realize an acceptable final layout and wiring based on non-scale drawings and general practices. Previous experience with AC/DC circuits, soldering, and reading and interpreting blueprints, drawings, and specifications is desirable. The operator must also be able to work repetitively stripping and crimping wire and stand on feet for long periods of time.
Requirements
- High School Diploma / GED
- Ability to use tools including: pneumatic/standard crimpers, hand tools, and power tools, solder iron
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
- Ability to bend, stoop, squat, stretch, and reach
- Ability to distinguish basic colors
- Ability to work in confined spaces
- Ability to work with hands extended above the head while standing on a ladder
- Ability to read and understand fractions
- Ability to work repetitively stripping and crimping wire
- Ability to stand on feet for long periods of time
