Youth Care Worker - Travel Companion

The Youth Care Worker – Travel Companion is a non-exempt position responsible for traveling with discharged children and reuniting them with family members. Youth Care Travel Companions work at the UC facility performing Youth Care Worker duties when not transporting clients. The role requires a supportive and positive role model for the development of social and other skills for all children. The position involves observing and assisting children at meals and snack times, keeping the Shift Lead informed of changes in the appearance and behavior of the children, and providing direct services to children to ensure a staff/client ratio is maintained in accordance with ORR regulations.

What You Will Do

Travel with children discharged from the program and maintain ongoing supervision of children's whereabouts and wellness reports. Assist children at meals and snack times, especially those with diet restrictions. Keep the Shift Lead informed of changes in the appearance and behavior of the children, needed supplies, and any areas of concern. Provide direct services to children to ensure a staff/client ratio is maintained in accordance with ORR regulations.

Why It Might Be a Fit

The ideal candidate will have high school diploma or equivalent and two (2) years’ experience working with children. Experience in a residential or mental health treatment setting is preferred. Bilingual skills in clients' spoken languages, Spanish, Haitian Creole, and/or French, are preferred. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required. The candidate must be able to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Two (2) years’ experience working with children
• Experience in a residential or mental health treatment setting (preferred)
• Bilingual skills in clients' spoken languages (Spanish, Haitian Creole, and/or French) (preferred)
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment
