Role Overview

The Youth Development Counselor will work in a Residential Program, taking a caring and personal approach to meeting youth's basic needs while providing physical and emotional safety. The role requires staff to be on site and may involve day, evening, and/or overnight shifts. Weekends will be required. The Counselor will provide direct supervision, manage residents' behavior, and implement daily living routines. They will also provide individual and group counseling, work with residents' families, and participate in youth and family development.

What You Will Do

The main responsibilities of the Youth Development Counselor include providing direct supervision, managing residents' behavior, implementing daily living routines, ensuring the safety of residents, and maintaining security and cleanliness. The Counselor will also provide individual and group counseling, work with residents' families, and participate in youth and family development. They will coordinate court-ordered visits and ensure the proper care and supervision of supplies and agency equipment.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED required
  • Valid New York State Driver's license required
  • Must be able to complete and pass all components of required physical intervention training
  • Must successfully complete a pre-hire physical ability test
  • Ability to perform physical restraint of youth using approved restraint procedures
  • Must be capable of sustained physical exertion and have no limitations on ability to engage in necessary physical intervention activities
